Una novela rescata al agente 007 literario

Ian Fleming ya tiene un sucesor. El novelista británico Sebastian Faulks ha escrito una nueva aventura de James Bond, 42 años después de la publicación de la última novela del 007. Devil may care (La esencia del mal) saldrá a la venta el próximo 28 de mayo, coincidiendo con el centenario del nacimiento del creador del famoso superespía. La decimoquinta historia de Bond está ambientada en plena Guerra Fría y tiene como escenario algunas de las ciudades más excitantes del mundo. Es un 80% Fleming en la prosa, pero he evitado el pastiche, afirma Faulks, que recibió el delicado encargo. Cuando la fundación Fleming me pidió el pasado verano si quería escribir un libro de Bond, me quedé sorprendido y halagado, ha comentado el autor de grandes éxitos editoriales como Birdsong y Charlotte Gray.

Les dije que no había leído los libros (de Bond) desde que tenía 13 años, pero que si al releerlos seguía disfrutando y podía ver cómo hacer algo en el mismo estilo, entonces estaría encantado de considerar la propuesta, explica Faulks en un comunicado. Fleming tenía también una forma muy peculiar de trabajar, que Faulks ha tratado de imitar hasta donde ha podido. En su casa en Jamaica", cuenta el autor con mucho humor, Fleming solía escribir unas mil palabras por la mañana, después se iba a bucear, tomaba un cóctel, almorzaba en la terraza, volvía a bucear, escribía otras mil palabras a última hora de la tarde y se rodeaba de más martinis y de mujeres llenas de glamour. Barbara Broccoli, cuya familia ha producido las películas del espía desde la primera en 1962 y que tuvo ocasión de examinar la novela, aseguró que si le hubieran dicho que los herederos habían encontrado un viejo manuscrito de Fleming en el sótano, les habría creído.

Como Fleming, que fue periodista de Reuters y Sunday Times, Faulks trabajó para varios periódicos británicos.

In his house in Jamaica, "says the author with much humor, Fleming used to write a thousand words in the morning, then he went diving, had a cocktail, had lunch on the terrace, went back to diving, wrote a thousand words at the last minute in the afternoon and surrounded himself with more martinis and glamorous women. Barbara Broccoli, whose family has produced spy movies since the first one in 1962 and had the opportunity to examine the novel, said that if they had told her that the heirs had found an old Fleming manuscript in the basement, she would have believed them.

Like Fleming, who was a Reuters and Sunday Times journalist, Faulks worked for several British newspapers.

Fleming, who was born on May 28, 1908, achieved worldwide fame with the stories of 007, of which more than one hundred million books have been sold worldwide, although he was also an athlete, a Navy commander and agent of the intelligence services.
