In Memoriam Sir Roger Moore (14/10/1927 – 23/05/2017)

En un triste día como hoy de 2017 falleció en Suiza, a la edad de 89 años, Sir Roger George Moore el tercer James Bond 007 cinematográfico, Simon Templar el Santo (The Saint), el persuasor Brett Sinclair, el caballero Ivanhoe...

Nació en Londres el 14 de octubre de 1927 y, tristemente, murió en Suiza el 23 de mayo de 2017. Su primer trabajo fue el de dibujante en una revista, siendo uno de sus primeros papeles en el cine el minúsculo cometido de uno de los centuriones de César en César y Cleopatra (Caesar and Cleopatra, 1945). Apasionado con la experiencia siguió cursos de arte dramático en la Royal School de Londres, trabajando poco después en el teatro y en la radio. En 1953 se trasladó a EEUU para rodar al lado de Jean Peters, Manos peligrosas (Pickup On South Street), pero sólo logró alcanzar la fama cuando regresó a Inglaterra en 1958-1959 para encarnar a Ivanhoe en la serie televisiva. De 1962 a 1969 fue El Santo (The Saint) en una serie también muy famosa de la pequeña pantalla. En 1971 - 1972 interpreto a Lord Brett Sinclair en la serie Los Persuasores (The Persuaders) junto a Tony Curtis. Ya maduro, tomó el relevo de Sean Connery como James Bond en 1973 con 007: Vive y deja morir (Live And Let Die - Vivre et laisser mourir) hasta su jubilación en 1985 con Panorama para matar (A View To A Kill - Dangereusement Vôtre). Dentro de su filmografía citó, entre otras, Misión en la jungla (The Sins of Rachel Cade, 1961), El rapto de las sabinas (Il ratto delle sabine, 1961), Tinieblas (The Man Who Haunted Himself, 1970), Gritar al diablo (Shout at the Devil, 1976), Evasión en Atenea (Escape to Athena, 1979), Los locos del Cannonball ( The Cannonball Run, 1981), Fuego, nieve y dinamita (Feuer, Eis & Dynamit, 1990)... Fue nombrado Embajador de la Unicef, tarea que combinó con cine y televisión.
