Dame Victoire Paddy Ridsdale falleció a la edad de 88 años en Inglaterra. Fue secretaria del escritor cuando éste trabajaba en la Inteligencia Naval durante la II Guerra Mundial. Años más tarde Victoire se casaría con Julian Ridsdale y fue nombrada dame por sus servicios a la Cámara de los Comunes. Fleming reconoció en su momento que dame Ridsdale tuvo un papel decisivo en una operación concebida por él para engañar a la inteligencia alemana.

El personaje de Moneypenny surgió de The sett , una novela del misionero Pete Fleming, y en uno de los primeros filmes de Bond la llaman Penny.

Dame Victoire Paddy Ridsdale es la opción más definitiva para haber sido la eterna enamorada del super agente secreto y secretaria de M (otro de los personajes fijos de la serie Bond), a pesar que otras tres colaboradoras de Fleming también pudieron ser fuentes inspiradoras del personaje de ficción: Katheleen Pettigrew (asistente del jefe del MI6), Vera Atkins (oficial ejecutiva de la sección francesa de operaciones creada por Churchill) y Margaret Priestley (involucrada en la huida del 30 Comando de Asalto).
